Getting there from North Georgia
- Take US-64 through the Ocoee gorge, then US-74 past Bryson City. About the same time as I-40 and much prettier.
- I-40 through the Pigeon River Gorge is still down to narrow lanes after Helene and can close for rockslides. Check before using it.
- No chargers on the Parkway. EVs should leave town full on the Parkway day.
If we do the Parkway
- Check Parkway road status that morning. The section north toward Mount Mitchell is still closed.
- It's 15 to 20 degrees colder at 5,000 feet. Bring a real jacket.
- Graveyard Fields gets muddy. Wear shoes you don't mind ruining.
